My role as a Personal Trainer goes beyond telling you what exercises you should be doing, I aim to help you transform your life for the better. Creating lasting change and building strong habits is much more crucial to our wellbeing than most would give it credit for. I am a fully qualified Personal Trainer, but more than that I am a Mental Health and Exercise Coach. Based in the Lake District, I work with clients out of Kendal, Ulverston and online.
My programmes are suitable for somebody looking to start on their fitness journey, or people with experience who are looking for some more focus and guidance. Together we aim to improve both your physical and mental health, as they have a strong symbiotic relationship. My goal is to create a safe, empathetic and motivating environment for you to be able to achieve things you never thought you’d be able to do!
I work with people of all different ages and experience levels, so I can assure you there will be no judgement from me no matter what it is that we need to address. My training isn’t about quick fixes, overpromises or crash diets, it’s about creating a healthy, sustainable lifestyle that fits in with your needs and wants in life.
My approach is rooted in personal experience. Fitness played a vital role in transforming my own mental health, helping me move from a place of struggle to strength. I also live with IBS, so I understand first-hand how challenges with nutrition and gut health can impact your well-being. That’s why I bring empathy and real-world solutions into every programme I design.
If you're ready to take the next step toward a stronger body and a healthier mind, whether here in Kendal or Ulverston, or via online coaching, I’d love to work with you.

Testimonials
Lisa
Before starting with James, I was anxious about the gym (particularly weight training and using certain machines). I needed a personal trainer who was kind, empathetic and understanding, which describes James perfectly.
James made me feel comfortable straight away and really listened to what I needed. He has helped me to believe in myself and my confidence has grown significantly. I have made good progress without ever feeling pressured. I can be honest with James about any concerns and he always listens without judgement and focuses on finding a solution.
I am now confident in the gym and really enjoy training. James' focus on mental health is something I have been able to apply to other aspects of my life and my general happiness and wellbeing has improved as a result.
You can tell James genuinely cares about all his clients and has a very personalised approach. I would happily recommend him to anybody looking for any kind of support in the gym.

James is a kind, empathetic, and highly professional personal trainer. He meets me exactly where I am—physically and emotionally—always acknowledging my strengths while gently challenging me to grow. His approach goes beyond fitness: it's empowering, supportive, and grounded in genuine care. James creates a space where progress feels possible, not pressured. James integrates mental health into his practice, helping me not only become stronger in body, but also in mind. Thank you, James, for helping me see what I’m capable of.

A massive thank you to James!
James has equipped me with the knowledge and confidence I needed as a newcomer to the gym. By following the personalised programme he created for me, I’ve built strength and muscle that far exceeded my expectations. During our sessions, James has offered helpful advice, form corrections, and engaging conversation (which makes those tough sets much easier to get through!).
Beyond that, James has helped me develop a healthier mindset around nutrition and fitness. Most importantly, he’s shown me how to view strength training as a game — to the point where I now look forward to going to the gym and chasing new PRs. Fitness no longer feels like something I SHOULD do, but something I GET to do, which has been a huge mental shift for me.
Working with James has surpassed my expectations, and I can confidently say that anyone who trains with him will feel the same.
